CycleHop Partners With Defend Our Future On Climate Change Challenge Campaign and commits to facilitate 10,000 bicycles for bike share on campuses across the country

CycleHop will partner with Defend Our Future to deploy and expand bike share systems on college campuses across the country.  The partnership is part of Defend Our Future’s campus challenge campaign to engage and mobilize students to act on climate change and demonstrate that their generation will not wait any longer for politicians to act.

“As the country’s leading ‘smart bike’ bike share operator, promotion of clean and renewable energy, and traffic reduction are at the core of our company’s mission,” said Michael Lawrence, CycleHop’s Vice President of Strategic Development.  “We are working with Defend Our Future and students across the country to take action on climate change by reducing the reliance on fossil fuels and dangerous pollution that causes climate change. More bikes means less emissions from motor vehicles. We believe in acting on climate and we are proud to work with Defend Our Future on this important challenge.”

CycleHop plans, implements, and operates bike share programs in North America. CycleHop offers complete bike share solutions for cities, universities, hotels and properties. On Thursday November 12th, 2015, CycleHop launched the first bike share program in Los Angeles County. Five hundred ‘Smart Bicycles’ at 75 locations in Santa Monica are now available for locals and visitors to enjoy.  Santa Monica joins more than 100 communities and universities across the country with bike share.

In order to support the programs and initiatives being announced in Defend Our Future’s campaign, CycleHop will make the following initial commitments:

  • CycleHop commits to facilitating 10,000 bike share bikes on at least fifty college campuses across the country.
  • CycleHop will provide free ridership to the student body on any campus with a system of 100 or more bikes and will assist the student body in locating funding sources to purchase the bike share system.
  • CycleHop will create a new internal position and hire an individual with the title: “Liaison for College Bike Share Systems” who will be charged with spearheading this initiative and coordinating student efforts to bring bike share to campuses.
  • CycleHop will integrate its system with student identification cards and will hire and train students to assist in roll out and operation of on-campus bike share systems.

“We are glad to have the support of environmentally conscious corporate partners like CycleHop who are doing what they can to take meaningful action to address climate change,” said Alicia Kolar Prevost, Director of Defend Our Future. “We look forward to working with CycleHop to expand bike sharing on campuses across the country.”

The CycleHop-Defend Our Future partnership announced today is part of a broader campaign launch on campuses across the country that includes a new website where individuals can commit to taking a variety of challenges to act on climate change and a new video that provides interesting answers to the provocative question: “If you were in danger, would you do something about it?” To learn more about the campaign, the challenges and to see and share the #IWillNotWait video, visit www.defendourfuture.org and connect with us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat (DefendOurFuture).
